Zeljko Milicevic, current conductor with the RSO, received his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education and Violin Performance from Wayne State University. He received his Master of Music in Education from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He also earned a Certificate in Orchestral Studies from Wayne State University with an emphasis in Conducting and Violin Performance.
A sought-after clinician and adjudicator, Milicevic began his service in public education in 1990. He taught music to students at all grade levels, most recently with later secondary orchestral ensembles. Milicevic is currently employed through the Oxford Community Schools as Director of High School Orchestras. He is also the District String Coordinator, grades K-12. In addition to his public school responsibilities, he holds a position as Adjunct Professor of String Pedagogy at Oakland University in Rochester, MI.
The Flint Symphony Orchestra appointed him to the position of Associate Concertmaster in 2011 after he had been a member since 1987. Additionally, he serves as the Concertmaster and soloist of the Bijou Orchestra, a select 13-member salon theatre orchestra. He has performed in many of Michigan’s regional and community orchestras. Among them are the Michigan Opera Theatre, Saginaw Symphony, and The Midland Symphony Orchestra.
An avid chamber musician, his career has included engagements with numerous ensembles. He is a violinist with the Classic Impressions String Quartet which is comprised of principals of the Flint Symphony Orchestra. He is also a member of the Ivybrooke Strings where he performs in a violin and piano duo as well as a piano trio. His most recent recording project is a musicalportrayal based on the book Einstein’s Dreams with the Bijou Orchestra. He is also recording the piano trios of Mendelssohn and Haydn with the Ivybrooke Strings.
Presently, Milicevic is Senior Director with the Oakland Youth Orchestras and the Conductor for the Symphony Orchestra since 1994. In 2003, Milicevic earned the title of Music Director and Conductor of the Lake St. Clair Symphony Orchestra. He has appeared as guest conductor with the Bijou Theatre Orchestra and the Detroit Medical Orchestra.
