Nick Thompson, Clarinetist, “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band- D.M.A. in Clarinet Performance, Performing Concerto No. 1 in f minor by Carl Maria von Weber and George Gershwin’s Promenade “Walking the Dog”
Staff Sgt. Nick Thompson began serving as a clarinetist with “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in October 2022.
Staff Sgt. Thompson graduated from the University of Michigan with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree (2023) and Master of Music degree (2018), both in Clarinet Performance, and George Mason University with a Bachelor of Music degree (2016) in Clarinet Performance. He has primarily studied with Chad Burrow, Dan Gilbert, Kathy Gardiner Mulcahy, and Ralph Skiano.
Prior to joining “The President’s Own”, Staff Sgt. Thompson performed as principal clarinet with the Flint Symphony in Michigan, and the Lima and Youngstown Symphonies in Ohio. As a substitute and extra musician, he has performed frequently with a number of ensembles, including the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra and the Detroit, Richmond, Toledo, Kalamazoo, Ann Arbor, and Canton Symphonies.
Staff Sgt. Thompson performs with the Marine Band and Marine Chamber Orchestra at the White House, in the greater Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, and across the country during the band’s annual concert tour.
